Design

Design is my passion, plain and simple. I love clean lines, bright colors, geometric shapes, and emotive designs. Although I do have my own personal aesthetic, I strive to fit the design needs of every client to provide the exact product that they dream of.

Packaging

I have always loved beautiful packaging. Being a GrC major has increased this love and now I wander around stores looking at packaging all day. Just ask my friends and my roommates, they refuse to go grocery shopping with me for that reason.

Letterpress

Some days I just need a dose of analog design. Letterpress printing has not only strengthened my fundamental design skills (I know pica to point to inch conversions like the back of my hand) but it has improved my patience and problem-solving skills as well.

about

My Face

Hello!

As a graphic designer, my passion in life is to create and make all of your design dreams come true. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communication and Minor in Packaging at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, but I love freelancing and working with clients.

I am a lover of geometric shapes, clean design, and bright colors. If I am not working on an InDesign document, you can either find me drooling over packaging in Target or letterpress printing in the Shakespeare Press Museum. To be honest, at this point I probably have lead poisoning considering how much I letterpress print.

In my free time I do all things creative, all to the sound of super hip background music. I think you and I could be good friends so leave me a message below and we can start a design relationship!

Description

I competed in this year's Cal Poly Design and Dev Hackathon with a team of 6 designers and developers. Our iOS and Apple Watch application, Optimist, is a mental health app that virtually geocaches optimism around you. Optimist is not only aimed to make stressed students feel better, but to also make mental health a more common topic of conversation. I was one of three designers on our team and I was in charge of creating graphics and mocking up screens of the app.

Phoenix Challenge Packaging Competition 2016

Team Position

Team Captain

Awards

2016 Overall Champion

Description

The Phoenix Challenge Competition is an annual, yearlong flexographic printing competition at the collegiate level put on by Flexographic Technical Association. The prompt for the 2015-2016 competition was to rebrand, repackage, or promote a start-up or incubator business with flexographic printed products. Over the course of 10 months, I led a team of eight students and together we developed a complete rebrand, repackage, and marketing plan for the start-up B.R.A.T. Diet Drink. We produced three products: a single serve Tetra Wedge Aseptic, a 16-oz. bottle with a full body shrink sleeve label, and a point of purchase display to hold both products. We printed the Tetra Wedge and shrink sleeve label in-house on Cal Poly’s Mark Andy 2200 flexographic press. For the point of purchase display, we collaborated with industry professionals of Pacific Southwest Container to print this larger product on their corrugate flexographic press.

As the Team Captain, my roles included managing the schedules of our team of eight students, facilitating bi-weekly team meetings, developing short-term and long-term deadlines, and acting as the liaison between the team, our client, and industry professionals.

In March 2016, we had the opportunity to compete against 10 other universities from across the United States and Canada in Fort Worth, Texas. We presented our products and corresponding research to six industry professionals. Ultimately, we were named 2016 Overall Champion based on our excellence in the four categories of concept, research, graphics, and execution. As well, our client is going to implement this rebrand and repackage and we will see our products on store shelves in the coming months.

Description

The Phoenix Challenge Competition is an annual, yearlong flexographic printing competition at the collegiate level put on by Flexographic Technical Association. Our team consisted of seven students with varying roles and my position was Concept. The prompt asked that we work with a local attraction to rebrand, package, or promote their company with flexographic printed products and we chose to work with the Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville. We produced three different products, a popcorn-scented seal, a pop-up card, and a rebranded gift certificate, to increase their marketing reach and brand interest. Specifically, my role included inventing the initial product concepts, conducting focus groups and market research, and helping design graphic elements for the products. As a team, we produced all of our products in-house on Cal Poly’s Mark Andy 2200 flexographic press.

In May 2015, we presented our products and corresponding research to a panel of seven industry professionals. We competed against eight other universities from across the United States and Canada and received awards for Best in Concept and Best in Graphics.

Description

With a team of three other students from the Graphic Communication and Business departments, we redesigned the secondary packaging of the Bud Light six pack. After evaluating Bud Light’s target demographic and market trends within the beer industry, we engineered secondary packaging that not only helps with transportation, but also acts as a koozie (thermal insulator) for each individual beer can.

Book Design

Description

For my Book Design course, I designed and hand-bound a special edition, bilingual version of Los Versos del Capitán / The Captain’s Verses by Pablo Neruda. In this collection of poems, Neruda encompasses the full scope of love—tenderness, passion, hatred, monotony—and that depth and intricacy is something I wanted to convey with this special edition book.

First, I chose a 1:2 book ratio and determined my margins using the Van de Graaf canon. I then designed two identical layouts, one in Spanish and one in English, using Adobe Caslon Pro and distinct glyphs for each section. After printing on Cal Poly’s Konica Minolta C1100, I folded, hand-stitched, glued 18 signatures. I specifically stitched the Spanish and English versions flipped from each other so the reader has the choice to read Neruda’s poetry in his native tongue or translated.

Ultimately, I cased the book into a handmade book case, created using bookboard, book paste, and book cloth. Finally, to differentiate between the Spanish and English sides, I handset 18pt. Caslon metal type with a ship image and letterpress printed titles in the corresponding language for both covers in the Shakespeare Press Museum.

Cal Poly Galentine’s Day 2015

Description

I designed, hand set, and printed posters for Cal Poly’s first Galentine’s Day. This event was created to not only celebrate Galentine’s Day, the day before Valentine’s Day where women can celebrate their nonromantic relationships, but also to shed light on the phenomenon of “girl hate”. As a member of the design team, I created these posters to give away to attendees of our events. This was one of the designs bought by Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls and was featured on their website and social media for download.
